Memphis Demographics

According to the 2010 United States Census, the population of Memphis was about 652,078 people split into 245,836 households. The population density was 2,327.4 people per square mile.

Of the population, 3.9% were under the age of 18 years old, 12.2% were between 20 and 24, 6.6% were between 25 and 34, 5.2% were between 35 and 49, 5.6% were between 50 and 64, and 9.7% were 65 years old or older.

The racial makeup of Memphis in 2010 was as follows: 62.6% black residents, 31.7% white residents, 5% Hispanic or Latino residents, 1.7% Asian residents, .2% Native American residents, and .1% Pacific Islander residents. 2.7% of Memphis residents identified as an “other race” and 1.2% identified as two or more races.
