Memphis Baseball

Memphis has long standing history with the sport of baseball. The city has been home to several professional baseball teams over the years, dating all the way back to 1902. The Memphis Chicks were the main team in town from 1902 until 1960, and then again from 1978 to 1976. In between the Chicks’ hiatus, the Memphis Blues were the baseball team in town, though the team moved to Charleston in 1977. The Memphis Redbirds are the current baseball team in the city, as they have been since 1998. The Memphis Redbirds are a Triple-A minor league baseball team affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Redbirds are associated with quite a few non-profit programs in the city, as well. The Memphis Redbirds Foundation focuses on raising funds to support youth sports participation. They are also affiliated with the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities and Sports Teams Returning in the Public Education System, or STRIPES. The team plays out of the AutoZone Park each season.
